How do I know if I need counselling?
More often than not, we are able to work through challenging life situations with the help and support from family and friends. However, there may be times when we find it difficult to open up to our nearest and dearest with our worries. This is when counselling can help. In a safe and confidential space, where your counsellor holds your wellbeing at the heart of the process, you can explore your life and notice your ideas about yourself and the world around you change for the better.
What happens during counselling?
Counselling and psychotherapy involves a special kind of listening. Your counsellor will carefully attend to everything you say, without judging you, and really attempt to understand your experience of life right now, with all its challenges. Together, you and the counsellor can start to make sense of what is happening in your life, identify the cause of your problem and gain better insight into any destructive thought or behaviour patterns that are causing you pain or holding you back from reaching your full potential.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
The first session is an initial assessment session where the counsellor will ask some questions in order to get a better idea of what you would like help with and what you are hoping to gain from counselling. I primarily offer open-ended therapy session. This means I will review with you on a regular basis. This is because the counselling hour is your time, where the focus is completely on you and we will work at a pace that feels right for you, paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, hopes, fears and goals. This varies from individual to individual. However, if you prefer to have a set amount of sessions from the start, this is something we can agree on.
How much does counselling cost?
If you decide to go ahead with counselling, each session lasts for 50 minutes, is held on a weekly basis and the cost is £45 per session. A limited number of concessions are available - please ask about this at the first session if you feel this may apply to you.
